TechSoup GrantStation Discount: Price, Eligibility and How It Works

What GrantStation costs through TechSoup, who qualifies, how to request and renew it, when the twice-yearly promotion runs, and the other routes to a cheaper membership.

The TechSoup GrantStation discount is a standing offer that lets eligible U.S. nonprofits and public libraries get a one-year GrantStation membership for a TechSoup admin fee. TechSoup describes itself as "a 501(c)(3) nonprofit that's dedicated to helping other nonprofits to acquire and use technology more economically and more effectively" (TechSoup, October 2026), and GrantStation's one-year membership is one of the offers in its catalog.

The $199 TechSoup fee is the standing price, not the lowest one: TechSoup Plus members pay $150, and a two-day promotion in fall 2026 cut the fee to $119 (TechSoup Support, updated September 14, 2026).

Quick Answer: How Much Is GrantStation Through TechSoup?

Through TechSoup, a one-year GrantStation membership is normally a $199 admin fee, or $150 for TechSoup Plus members, which TechSoup compares with a $699 GrantStation price (TechSoup Support, updated September 14, 2026). Verified U.S. 501(c)(3) nonprofits and public libraries qualify, and TechSoup typically runs a deeper promotion each spring and fall (TechSoup pages, October 2026).

What the TechSoup GrantStation Discount Costs

The standing TechSoup price for a one-year GrantStation membership is $199, which TechSoup states saves eligible members $500 against the $699 it says GrantStation normally charges for one year (TechSoup Support, updated September 14, 2026). TechSoup Plus members can request the same offer for $150, a saving TechSoup puts at $549 (TechSoup Support, updated September 14, 2026).

TechSoup charges an admin fee, not a subscription price, and the fee is set against GrantStation's normal list price. TechSoup states that GrantStation's own promotions "will not affect the admin fee on TechSoup; our admin fees are based on normal prices and do not adjust for temporary promotions" (TechSoup Support, updated September 14, 2026).

That rule matters because GrantStation's own pages show more than one figure. In October 2026 GrantStation's membership purchase page sold a "1 Year Membership" at "$199 USD" and a "2 Year Membership" at "$299 USD," with the line "for only 41 cents a day" (GrantStation, October 2026). Its discounts page still listed the regular price as "One-Year Membership: $699 USD" (GrantStation, October 2026). At those prices, buying one year direct cost the same $199 as TechSoup's standing fee, so TechSoup saved money only at the $150 Plus price or during a promotion. Before paying either party, confirm the term and compare the totals.

TechSoup's savings article showed the same $199 and $150 figures in its August 6, 2026 version and in its September 14, 2026 update (TechSoup Support, August and September 2026). For how GrantStation's price compares with other research databases, the grant database pricing comparison and GrantStation vs Candid pricing cover the wider market.

Is TechSoup Plus Worth It for GrantStation Alone?

TechSoup Plus is not worth buying for GrantStation alone. The Plus membership costs $200 a year (TechSoup Support, updated April 18, 2026) and lowers the GrantStation fee from $199 to $150, a $49 difference (TechSoup Support, updated September 14, 2026).

MembershipMembership costGrantStation feeFirst-year total
TechSoup (free membership)$0$199$199
TechSoup Plus$200$150$350

Prices from TechSoup Support (Membership Options, updated April 18, 2026; GrantStation Savings, updated September 14, 2026); totals are simple sums.

The arithmetic flips only when your organization would use other Plus benefits. TechSoup lists Plus at "$200 per organization (up to 10 upgraded users and courses users) Annual Price," with "Reduced or waived admin fees on selected products" among its benefits (TechSoup, October 2026). TechSoup's support article describes Plus as additional catalog discounts plus access to an Engagement Hub with "webinars, in-depth guides, workshops, one-on-one consultations, and free TechSoup courses (for up to 10 members)" (TechSoup Support, updated April 18, 2026). If your team would take those courses or use other discounted offers in the Plus catalog, the $49 GrantStation saving (TechSoup Support, September 14, 2026 pricing) becomes one item in a larger tally. If GrantStation is the only purchase, the free membership is the cheaper path by $151 a year (TechSoup Support, September 14, 2026 pricing).

A quick way to decide is to list the Plus catalog items you would request this year, add up the difference between each standard and Plus price, and compare the sum with the $200 fee (TechSoup Support, updated April 18, 2026). Count only purchases you would make anyway.

Plus does not change eligibility. The GrantStation offer still requires a verified 501(c)(3) or public library status, whichever membership tier you hold (TechSoup, October 2026).

What the Discounted GrantStation Membership Includes

The TechSoup offer is a full GrantStation membership, not a reduced version. TechSoup's page calls it "Full membership, not a trial or a limited tier" (TechSoup, September 2026), and describes it as access to "searchable listings of global, national, regional, and local grantmakers, both private and governmental," step-by-step tutorials and "the GrantStation Insider, a weekly email newsletter" (TechSoup, October 2026).

The size claims come from the vendor side. TechSoup's page states GrantStation has "150,000+ Funder profiles across private and government grantmakers" and "15,000+ Active funding opportunities," and that "Behind each GrantStation profile is a researcher" who read the funder's website, annual report, audited financials and 990 filings (TechSoup, October 2026). Treat those as the vendor's description, and test them with the free search before buying.

The membership is a research tool, not an application tracker. GrantStation's membership includes saved funders, saved search criteria grouped into projects and alerts from saved criteria (GrantStation, September 2026), so a team that also needs deadline and task tracking needs somewhere else to keep it. In two Reddit threads, commenters described keeping their grant tracking in a spreadsheet outside their research tools (Reddit threads 1wiivcd and 1ubd86x, read September 2026).

Who Is Eligible for GrantStation Through TechSoup

GrantStation through TechSoup is open to U.S. nonprofits with 501(c)(3) status and to public libraries, after TechSoup verifies that status (TechSoup, October 2026). Libraries may use it only "for back-office use or other administrative purposes carried out by library staff" (TechSoup, October 2026).

TechSoup's general rule is narrower than "any nonprofit." For its partner programs, "your organization must be recognized as a 501(c)(3) Public Charity by the IRS," or be eligible under an IRS group exemption, and other types of tax-exempt organizations "are not currently eligible for TechSoup or our corporate partners' nonprofit programs" (TechSoup Support, updated March 13, 2026). An organization that is tax-exempt under another part of the tax code does not qualify through TechSoup, whatever its mission.

Eligibility rules from TechSoup pages read October 2026.

Canada has its own route. TechSoup Canada lists the same one-year offer at "$292 CAD ($199 USD)" (TechSoup Support Canada, updated September 14, 2026), and Canadian organizations request it on techsoup.ca.

Eligibility is not the same as fit. GrantStation's own guidance asks whether you are a 501(c)(3), educational institution, regional government, religious organization, tribal council or individual artist, with a budget of "$10,000 or more" and "a track record of fundraising" (GrantStation, October 2026). An organization that meets TechSoup's rules but has no fundraising history may get little from a database built for active grantseeking.

How to Redeem the TechSoup GrantStation Offer

Redeeming the offer takes four steps: join TechSoup, add and verify your organization, request the GrantStation one-year membership from the catalog, and watch for the fulfillment email at your organization's address. Verification depends on TechSoup's review of your organization, so start it before you need the database.

  1. Join TechSoup at techsoup.org as an individual representative. TechSoup requires "the first and last name of the person representing your organization" and "cannot accept generic member names," such as "IT Dept" or "Executive Director" (TechSoup Support, updated March 13, 2026).
  2. Add your organization to the account. TechSoup sends "email notifications about your organization's qualification status" (TechSoup Support, updated March 13, 2026).
  3. Request the offer. "Your organization will need to join TechSoup and be qualified to access the TechSoup catalog. One of the representatives for your organization will be able to request the GrantStation, 1-Year Membership offer" (TechSoup Support, updated September 14, 2026).
  4. Watch the organization inbox. TechSoup's fulfillment email and GrantStation's confirmation both go to "the organization email address that was listed in your organization details at the time of check out" (TechSoup Support, updated February 2, 2026).

Renewals use the same offer. Requesting the regular or promotional one-year offer adds "an additional year to an existing GrantStation membership," and you do not need to have bought through TechSoup before (TechSoup Support, updated February 2, 2026). Three rules apply: "You can renew only one membership per request"; memberships obtained through GrantStation's Membership Value Program or Premium Licensing Program "are not eligible to use the TechSoup offer to renew"; and an expired membership is reactivated by GrantStation "within 10 days" (TechSoup Support, updated February 2, 2026).

When TechSoup Runs the Bigger GrantStation Promotion

TechSoup typically runs a deeper GrantStation discount twice a year, once in spring and once in fall, for a short window. TechSoup says the promotion lets members request the one-year membership "at a larger discount than normal" (TechSoup Support, updated September 14, 2026).

The fall 2026 window shows how tight it is. From "6 a.m. Pacific on September 15 until 5 p.m. Pacific on September 16, TechSoup United States members will be able to request a 1-year GrantStation membership for $119 USD (normally $199 USD)" (TechSoup Support, updated September 14, 2026). "Adding the promotional offer to the TechSoup cart will not reserve the offer," and "No extensions can be provided by TechSoup if the 5 p.m. Pacific promotion deadline is missed" (TechSoup Support, updated September 14, 2026).

That window is closed. On October 6, 2026 TechSoup's GrantStation page read "The September offer has closed" and "We do not have a date for the next one yet" (TechSoup, October 2026). TechSoup's spring article noted that "GrantStation typically offers their own promotion on their website for a few days after the promotion on TechSoup ends" (TechSoup Support, updated March 13, 2026), which is worth checking if you miss a window.

A user report fits the published pattern. One commenter reported getting GrantStation through a TechSoup deal for a little over $100 for the year (Reddit thread 1r8eviy, read September 2026), close to the $119 promotion price TechSoup says it offers twice a year (TechSoup Support, updated September 14, 2026).

To catch the next window, TechSoup's own advice is "subscribing to our weekly Product Alert newsletter" (TechSoup Support, updated September 14, 2026). Have your organization verified before the promotion opens, since only checkout before the deadline secures the price.

Other Ways to Pay Less for GrantStation

TechSoup is one of several discount routes. Professional association membership, state nonprofit association pages and GrantStation's own partner programs can each cost less, and one can cost nothing extra if you already belong.

The Grant Professionals Association lists GrantStation as a "FREE annual subscription through the GPA website" for its members (Grant Professionals Association, September 2026), which the guide to GrantStation through GPA membership covers in full. State associations resell it too; the Pennsylvania association's co-branded page listed a one-year membership at $139 (GrantStation, September 2026). GrantStation names six partner programs that carry discounted access: Premium Licensing, Membership Value, Product Referral, Volume Purchase, Library Access and Education Access (GrantStation, October 2026). Remember that memberships from two of those programs cannot be renewed through TechSoup (TechSoup Support, updated February 2, 2026).

GrantStation's terms apply whichever route you choose. It says "We don't offer a free trial" (GrantStation, October 2026), but TechSoup's page notes "You do not need an account to find out whether GrantStation has funders for work like yours" (TechSoup, October 2026). Run that free search first. An organization that needs to pay by purchase order or invoice can contact GrantStation directly (GrantStation, October 2026).

A research database and a tool that combines search with tracking do different jobs. GrantCue's Free plan costs $0 and includes search across every source it covers, a pipeline board for up to 10 tracked grants at once and 3 AI NOFO summaries a month (GrantCue pricing page, October 2026). Its public foundation directory profiles more than 10,000 private foundations from IRS 990-PF filings, and nonprofits get 25 percent off any paid plan with the code NONPROFIT (grantcue.com, October 2026). The plan comparison lists what each tier adds.

FAQ

Is GrantStation Free Through TechSoup?

No. TechSoup charges an admin fee for the one-year GrantStation membership, normally $199, or $150 for TechSoup Plus members (TechSoup Support, updated September 14, 2026). The membership itself is a full one-year GrantStation membership. The free route is a different one: the Grant Professionals Association lists a free annual GrantStation subscription for its members (Grant Professionals Association, September 2026).

Can You Still Get the $119 GrantStation Price?

Not until TechSoup schedules another promotion. TechSoup's page answers that the $119 price "ran on September 15 and 16 only and closed at 5 p.m. Pacific on the 16th" (TechSoup, October 2026), and it had no date for the next one. TechSoup typically runs one promotion in spring and one in fall, so subscribe to its Product Alert newsletter and get verified in advance.

Can You Renew GrantStation Through TechSoup?

Yes. Requesting the one-year offer on TechSoup adds a year to an existing GrantStation membership, even if you never bought through TechSoup before (TechSoup Support, updated February 2, 2026). You can renew one membership per request, and memberships from GrantStation's Membership Value or Premium Licensing programs cannot renew this way. An expired membership is reactivated within 10 days (TechSoup Support, updated February 2, 2026).

Can Canadian Nonprofits Get the TechSoup GrantStation Discount?

Yes, through TechSoup Canada. TechSoup Canada lists the one-year GrantStation offer at $292 CAD, which it equates to $199 USD (TechSoup Support Canada, updated September 14, 2026), and TechSoup Canada typically runs its own promotion each spring and fall (TechSoup Support Canada, updated September 14, 2026). Canadian organizations request the offer on techsoup.ca, not on the U.S. site, after their own eligibility is verified.

Does a Public Library Qualify for GrantStation Through TechSoup?

Yes. TechSoup lists public libraries as eligible alongside U.S. 501(c)(3) nonprofits, once their status is verified (TechSoup, October 2026). The library may use GrantStation "for back-office use or other administrative purposes carried out by library staff" (TechSoup, October 2026), so it is a staff tool, not a public terminal for patrons.

Does GrantStation Have a Free Trial?

No. GrantStation states "We don't offer a free trial" (GrantStation, October 2026). You can still test it before buying: TechSoup's page notes that you do not need an account to see whether GrantStation has funders for work like yours, and a search shows how many grantmakers match before you spend anything (TechSoup, October 2026).

Check the Fee, the Window and the Renewal Date Before You Buy

Three things decide what you pay: the standing TechSoup fee in force on the day you order, whether a promotion window is open, and when your current membership ends. Check all three before requesting the offer.

If a promotion is weeks away and your membership runs past it, wait and get verified now. If you need the database this month, the standing $199 fee is the published TechSoup price (TechSoup Support, updated September 14, 2026). For how GrantStation's database compares with Candid's, read GrantStation vs Foundation Directory before committing a year.
