What usually goes wrong

No single source of truth across agencies

NIH runs an omnibus parent NOFO on standard receipt dates. DoD runs rolling topic releases through DSIP. NSF, DOE, NASA and the rest each run their own. Tracking all of them means checking a different site every week.

The registration stack is a hard gate measured in weeks

SAM.gov entity registration issues the UEI, then eRA Commons if you are applying to NIH, then Grants.gov, then the SBA Company Registry for the SBC Control ID. Miss the sequencing and the deadline is gone before you can submit a byte.

Award-side obligations run concurrently across every open award

Interim and final technical reports, invoicing against the right cost structure, and reporting cadences that differ by agency — all running at once, usually tracked by the same person who is running the science.

The team is technical, not administrative

At most firms the founder is the PI, the proposal manager and the contracts administrator. There is no grants office to absorb the process, so anything that is not automatic gets dropped.

GrantCue does not yet ingest an SBIR/STTR topic feed. Federal coverage comes from Grants.gov, which carries many but not all SBIR opportunities — DoD topics published only through DSIP are not currently included.
There is no Phase I / II / III award model, and no SBIR-specific forms.
GrantCue does not monitor or renew your SAM.gov registration, and does not validate your UEI or SBC Control ID.
There is no data-rights or SBIR Rights Notice tracking.
Nothing is submitted electronically to DSIP, Grants.gov or eRA Commons.
There is no DCAA-compliant accounting, timekeeping or indirect-rate capability. GrantCue is not an accounting system.

Questions

Can a for-profit company use GrantCue?

Yes. Any organization that applies for grants can use it, including for-profit small businesses. There is no 501(c)(3) requirement, which is the main reason startups are turned away elsewhere.

Does GrantCue list SBIR topics?

Only the SBIR opportunities that appear in Grants.gov. It is not a complete SBIR topic feed today — DoD topics published solely through DSIP are not ingested. Use it to manage the pursuits you are tracking, not as your only source of discovery.

Can I track several client companies in one place?

Yes. GrantCue supports multiple organizations with an org switcher, which is how consultants and firms with several entities keep pursuits separated.

Does it help with the registration stack?

No. SAM.gov, eRA Commons, Grants.gov and the SBA Company Registry are all handled outside GrantCue. You can track the registration steps as tasks with due dates, but GrantCue does not monitor or renew anything for you.
