Where It All Started

GrantCue started with a simple observation: the applicants with the greatest need for grant funding are often the ones with the fewest resources to find it.

In Clinton County, Pennsylvania — a rural community of about 37,000 people — nonprofits, municipalities, and small organizations do incredible work every day. They keep volunteer fire departments running, maintain parks, feed families, and hold the fabric of the community together.

They were stuck with the same broken process we later found everywhere else, in university departments and small manufacturers chasing SBIR awards just as much as in community organizations: manually searching federal databases, forwarding grant links over email, writing proposals from scratch, and hoping for the best.

The gap we saw

Well-resourced institutions have dedicated grants offices, six-figure research administration systems, and staff whose only job is funding strategy. Everyone else — the department without a seat on the enterprise system, the two-person grants office, the principal investigator doing their own pre-award — gets by on spreadsheets and late nights.
