Abell-Hanger Foundation Grants

A grant supporting nonprofit organizations in developing and testing new ideas, expanding proven ideas, and improving their quality, service, programming, or capacity for transformative community impact. The requested amount should be congruous with the scale of the project, and selection occurs once a year. Eligible applicants: The Foundation does not make grants to individuals.; The Internal Revenue Service must determine the applicant organization to be exempt from federal income tax.; Applicants must provide a copy of their IRS Determination Letter of Ruling identifying their organization as exempt under Section 501(c)(3) and exempt from Private Foundation Status under Section 509(a).; Applicants exempt under a Government Municipality must provide a W-9.; Grant requests supporting capital campaigns or capital projects will be rejected under the moratorium effective June 20, 2024.; Organizations headquartered outside the Foundation’s 27-county West Texas area will be considered based on the services they provide to the area and must demonstrate concrete activity there.; Applicants must seek funding for the same proposal from various sources.; Requests from universities and colleges must be approved by and submitted through the institution’s development office.; All potential applicants must schedule a call with the Foundation’s team before applying.; Applicants must come to the initial meeting prepared to share their plan in a 30-45-minute presentation followed by a question-and-answer period.; Once an applicant has met with the team and is ready to begin an application, the Foundation may request audits, IRS Form 990s, and internal financial statements.; Selected recipients will be asked to share key lessons learned and outcomes..
