- Applying is a two-step process - a letter of inquiry or phone call and sending the foundation a full proposal. Include with letter of inquiry a description of the project, or call the foundation to discuss the project idea. Include with the proposal a cover letter that specifies the amount of funding sought, summary of the proposal idea, products and timeframe. Three to five pages which briefly describe the history of the org., project goals, methods for reaching goals, need for the project, qualifications of the org. And staff, and measures of success. Attach a project budget and past and current year budgets for the overall org., recent financial statement or audit, list of board of directors and staff, IRS determination letter indicating exempt status, also if using a fiscal agent please include a letter from this org. And supplementary materials such as annual reports, newletters, media coverage and or brochures.
