Bronchoscopy Research Grant

Deadline January 4, 2027

Supports clinical research at non-profit institutions worldwide on the effect of robotic-assisted bronchoscopy in the clinical care of patients with pulmonary disease. Applicants may request total project costs up to $75,000 for a project lasting up to one year; allowable costs include specified research personnel, equipment, supplies, and travel, subject to the stated budget restrictions. Eligible applicants: Research must be conducted at a non-profit institution; grants may not fund for-profit activities.; Applicants must first submit a Letter of Intent (LOI); only LOIs reaching the scoring threshold will be invited to submit a full grant proposal.; Proposed research must concern the effect of robotic-assisted bronchoscopy on disease diagnosis or management, patient outcomes, or another stated research area of interest.; The LOI must include a summary, description of the problem/background, research purpose, hypothesis and methods, investigator and institutional capabilities, principal investigator contact information, and a specific funding request and budget.; The online application must have every section completed; submissions that only refer reviewers to an attachment may be returned without review.; Applicants must upload a PDF version of the LOI and documentation of the institution’s non-profit status.; U.S. institutions must upload their W9; institutions outside the United States must upload a letter from the institution confirming its non-profit status, subject to confirmation of non-profit equivalency before funds are released.; The total requested budget, including direct costs, indirect costs, and applicable taxes, cannot exceed $75,000.; Indirect costs cannot exceed 20% of the total requested budget.; Hard equipment purchases cannot exceed $5,000, and grant funds may not purchase equipment or instruments from Intuitive Surgical.; Grant funds may not support physician salaries, although salaries for statisticians, lab technicians, fellows, research coordinators, and other support personnel may be included.; The project must be completed within 12 months after initial funds are received.; Multiple grants will not be funded simultaneously to the same principal investigator; multiple grants to the same institution for different principal investigators may be considered.; Proposals are evaluated for clarity of research goals and objectives, novelty, clinical relevance and value, feasibility, strength of evaluation methods and measures including statistical power analysis as appropriate, availability of required resources, and an appropriately defined scope, timeline, and budget.; Research involving human subjects may require applicable authorizations or favorable opinions from relevant governmental and medical-institution authorities before funding.; Recipients must submit a mid-year progress report and a final status report detailing study results and conclusions.; If the funded project does not occur, all awarded funds must be refunded; if it ends early, a partial refund and accounting of expenditures must be provided; unused funds as of Dec. 31, 2027 must be refunded..
